JKUAT Strengthens Research Ties with Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS)

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is deepening its research collaboration with the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to boost joint research and innovation projects.

International Research Cooperation

A JSPS delegation led by Ms. Kumiko Tansho visited JKUAT to explore ways of expanding and reviving research partnerships between Japanese and Kenyan researchers. Discussions focused on long-term research collaborations and aligning research with national and global development goals.

JKUAT’s Global Research

JKUAT Vice Chancellor, Prof. Victoria Wambui Ngumi reaffirmed the university’s commitment to global research engagements. She pointed out that JKUAT has an Office of International Engagements to streamline and enhance global research linkages, making the institution a hub for cutting-edge research and innovation.

“JKUAT is broadening its impact through strategic partnerships. Our Office of International Collaboration plays a key role in strengthening these research linkages,” said Prof. Ngumi.

She added that JKUAT is one of the top three research universities in Kenya and benefited greatly from long-standing collaborations with Japanese institutions.

JSPS Reiterates Support for Bilateral Research Partnerships

Ms. Kumiko Tansho emphasized the importance of deeper collaboration between Japanese and Kenyan researchers. She noted that such partnerships advance science and facilitate academic and research exchanges.

She also stressed the need for joint bilateral programs supported by national research institutions such as the National Research Fund (NRF) and the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI). Aligned efforts with these key stakeholders ensure impact and sustainability of joint research.
