KMTC Navakholo Accredited to Offer KRCHN Course, Boosting Health Training in Western Kenya

KMTC Navakholo Campus gets nod to offer Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) program

In a major milestone for healthcare education in western Kenya, the Nursing Council of Kenya has approved the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Navakholo Campus in Kakamega County to offer the Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN) program.

The news has been met with celebrations, with area Member of Parliament Emmanuel Wangwe calling it a “game changer for greater access to professional nursing education.”

“This is more than a certificate; it’s a door of opportunity for our youth and a boost to our national healthcare capacity,” said Hon. Wangwe. “I congratulate KMTC Navakholo leadership, staff and students for their hard work.”

A Step towards Universal Health Coverage

The KRCHN program is one of the most respected community health training courses in Kenya. It equips students with practical skills to serve on the frontlines of healthcare – especially in rural, underserved and marginalized areas. Graduates will play a key role in implementing the country’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

With this development, KMTC Navakholo joins the list of nationally accredited institutions offering specialized healthcare training. The campus will now be key in producing nurses who can address community health challenges.

“This is a timely and strategic move,” said a senior official from the Nursing Council of Kenya. “The demand for community health nurses is growing and institutions like KMTC Navakholo are critical to meeting that demand.”

Opening Doors to Opportunity

The campus will start admitting students for the KRCHN course in the next intake. Education stakeholders and local leaders see this as a big opportunity for the youth and to fill the gaps in the healthcare workforce.

Health and education advocates have welcomed the development, saying it will uplift livelihoods and turn Navakholo into a training hub. The program will also strengthen primary healthcare services in Kakamega and neighboring counties.

Hon. Wangwe reiterated his commitment to develop the region’s education and healthcare infrastructure:

“This is just the beginning. We are working to make Navakholo a hub of progress and development.”### New Chapter
