In a circular dated April 24th, 2023, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Belio Kipsang, communicated the changes to the mid-term break dates for the second term, which was initially from June 29th to July 2nd, 2023. The mid-term break shall now be scheduled to run from June 27 to July 1, 2023.
This has just come about, given that the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) had forwarded the request. The Chairman of KESSHA, Kahi Indimuli, had requested that the dates be changed to enable school heads to attend the 46th KESSHA conference. The Ministry of Education said it had taken consideration of the importance of this conference, where managers review and share experiences on school administration.
Meanwhile, the Ministry has decided to reschedule the mid-term break. Any adjustments needed should, therefore, be undertaken by the school managers and stakeholders accordingly.
This term is likely to be quite long since the previous one was about 13 weeks. This puts the onus on learners and teachers to be on course with regard to focus and commitment for the term to be successful. The mid-term break gives a breather in the midst of a busy academic schedule, where one gets to relax and recharge for the journey ahead.
