Rugby Rivalry: Koyonzo Boys and Vihiga High Gear Up for Western Region Showdown!

Get ready to witness some high-octane rugby action as the Western region school games heat up! Champs Koyonzo Boys, the reigning National Sevens rugby champions, are on a mission to dominate not just Kenya but the entire East Africa region. And trust me, they’re not holding back!

Coach Eliud Okwemba is leading the charge, fueled by the desire to conquer the rugby world. Last year, his team finished second during the East Africa School Games in Tanzania. Now, they’re back with a vengeance, ready to unleash their rugby prowess on the competition.

In the semifinals, Koyonzo Boys faced off against Kimobo of Bungoma, and boy, did they put on a show! A jaw-dropping 27-0 victory secured their spot in the final against Vihiga High School, who thrashed Bungoma High to reach the ultimate showdown.

But it’s not just about winning titles for Koyonzo Boys. They’ve got a score to settle in the Sevens format after a tough 15s tournament last term, which saw them face a suspension. Coach Okwemba is determined to build a new Sevens dream team and claim the championship fairly. Revenge is a dish best served on the rugby field!

As the adrenaline-fueled battle unfolds, school principal Solomon Sisuma watches proudly. He knows his team has the perfect formula – faith, academics, and rugby. The boys pray before and after every game, juggling their studies and training with grace and determination.

Meanwhile, Vihiga High School is gearing up for their shot at glory. Last year’s quarterfinal loss to St Peter’s Mumias has only fueled their hunger for victory. They’re ready to seize the title and make their mark on the journey to the nationals.

Emmanuel Pilla, the star player for Vihiga, is no stranger to making headlines. His hat trick of tries in the semifinal against Bungoma sent a clear message – they mean business! Coach Abdallah Abubakar knows he’s got a dream team, with exceptional ball handling, creativity, and a solid structure.

But the action doesn’t stop there! Boys’ volleyball champions Namwela are all set to take on former national champions Malava Boys. It’s a battle of the volleyball giants, and the stakes are sky-high!

Isaac Muresia’s Namwela squad showcased their dominance in the semifinals, crushing Teremi Boys in straight sets. On the other side of the net, Malava Boys recorded an impressive victory against Sigalame. It’s like a volleyball showdown fit for the gods!

And let’s not forget the fierce competition in girls’ volleyball. Multiple champions Lugulu made quick work of Miruri, securing their spot in the final against Mwitoti, who emerged victorious against Butere. The girls are bringing their A-game, and it’s going to be a volleyball spectacle like no other!
