The Ministry of Education to Launch County-Based Dialogues on Competency-Based Education (CBE)

The Ministry of Education is launching a 7 day county based dialogue to address key issues in the education sector. The dialogues will focus on Competency Based Education (CBE) system, its progress, achievements and opportunities.

County Based Dialogue Schedule

The dialogues will be held in all 47 counties from 9th to 15th March 2025 and will have a national launch in Machakos on 7th March 2025. The discussions will be facilitated by a team from the Ministry of Education (MoE), Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC), Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) and Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Objectives of the County Based Dialogue

The objectives of these dialogues are:

  1. Update stakeholders on the current status of CBE implementation.
  2. Provide a platform for stakeholders to validate Senior School guidelines.
  3. Apprise stakeholders on teacher recruitment and capacity building.
  4. Get feedback from stakeholders on CBE implementation.

Expected Outcomes

Through these engagements the Ministry of Education expects to achieve:

  • Stakeholder awareness on the current status and future direction of CBE.
  • Validated Senior School guidelines through public participation.
  • Stakeholder feedback to improve and refine CBE implementation.
  • Strengthening of collaboration among education stakeholders to drive CBE system.

The county based dialogues will provide a platform for all education sector players to contribute to the implementation of CBE curriculum. This is a demonstration of the Ministry’s commitment to inclusive decision making and continuous improvement in the education system.
