TSC to roll out a nationwide TPAD training next week
Nationwide Training
From Tuesday next week, training will be done in zonal schools and will involve 3 teachers per school, including:
- A TPAD champion
- A school administrator
- A junior secondary school teacher
A circular from TSC will be issued outlining the training guidelines and allowances.
Changes in TPAD
TSC has made minor changes to the teacher appraisal system to make monitoring and assessment easier. TPAD is an open system where teachers in primary and secondary schools can appraise themselves and develop professionally. The commission hopes this will restore public confidence in the teaching profession.
Lesson Observation
Recent changes allow teachers to observe their colleagues and fill lesson observation forms which was previously done by administrators. Now non-administrative teachers can initiate lesson observations, reducing the workload for school heads. Once done, these forms should be submitted to administrators for online upload to TPAD.
TPAD and Teacher Promotions
TSC uses TPAD compliance as a key requirement for teacher promotions. During promotion interviews, teachers will be required to present evidence of TPAD compliance. Those who don’t comply will be disciplined.
For 2024 promotions, TSC has advertised 25,288 slots for primary and post-primary school teachers. TPAD ratings will be used as follows:
- 81+ Points – 10 Marks
- 61-80 Points – 8 Marks
- 41-60 Points – 6 Marks
- 21-40 Points – 4 Marks
- 1-20 Points – 2 Marks
Teachers will present TPAD records from the past 3 years (2022, 2023 and 2024) during interviews.
