Twelve Kenyan Students Set to Represent Kenya at Global Huawei ICT Competition in China

Twelve Kenyan students will fly the national flag high at this year’s Global Huawei ICT Competition. The event will take place from May 20 to 24, 2025 in Shenzhen, a global tech hub.

Education CS Flags Off the Delegation

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migosi flagged off the students yesterday. The ceremony marks a big moment for Kenya’s digital transformation and its growing pool of ICT talent.

“These students are Kenya’s future in technology,” said CS Migosi. “They have worked hard and are excellent in ICT and I believe they will make us proud.”

  • Over 80 countries participate annually
  • Students work on real world challenges using emerging technologies
  • It promotes collaboration, creativity and problem solving

Kenya’s Record in the Competition

Kenya is not new to this global challenge. Over the years Kenyan teams have performed well and gained global recognition for technical skills, innovation and teamwork.

The country’s continued participation shows its commitment to empowering youth and a digitally skilled workforce.

Government and International Collaboration

This year’s participation is a joint effort between Huawei, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. Such collaborations bridge the ICT skills gap and give students global exposure.

Huawei has been involved in Kenya’s digital training initiatives including Seeds for the Future and ICT academies in local universities.

Why This Matters

In a rapidly changing digital world, platforms like the Huawei ICT Competition are more than just competitions – they are launchpads for future tech leaders. For Kenya it’s a chance to showcase its digital potential, inspire other students and strengthen its presence in the global tech community.
