2024 KCSE Results Released: Highlights and Key Insights

The Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has today released the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results at New Mitihani House in South C, Nairobi. The number of candidates who sat for the KCSE has increased by a big margin this year, and there also notable changes in gender and performance statistics.

Increase in Candidate Numbers

A total of 962,512 candidates sat for the 2024 KCSE, marking a 7.19% rise against the 899,453 candidates who sat for the examination in 2023. These were held at 10,754 examination centers distributed evenly across the country; 30,370 examiners marked exams at 40 centres.

Gender Representation

For the very first time, there were more female candidature than males. More females, 482,202; 50.1%, more males stood at 480,310; 49.9%.

Performance Breakdown

  • Grade A: 1,693 candidates (0.18%) compared to 1,216 candidates in 2023.
  • University Entry Grade (C+ and Above):
    • 246,391 candidates (25.53%) qualified for direct entry to universities.
    • 476,889 candidates (49.41%) attained grade C+ and above.
  • Grade D+ and Above: 605,774 candidates (62.7%).

Examination Integrity

Whereas overall performances were successful, the following examination malpractices were recorded:

  • 91 officials were implicated in malpractices across the country.
  • Results for 840 candidates were cancelled due to confirmed involvement in cheating.
  • Results for 2,829 candidates have been withheld, pending further investigations.

KNEC CEO Dr. Daivi Njegere noted that there were no early exposures of the exams, and all sessions were administered as scheduled—morning and afternoon.

Accessing Results

Candidates can access their results immediately via the KNEC website at results.knec.ac.ke. CS Migos said that individual results are available online through a link provided on the website.

Recent KPSEA Report Release

On Tuesday, KNEC also released the 2024 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment reports, part of sustained efforts to harmonize and standardize the process of conducting examinations in the country.
