KCSE 2025 Candidate Registration Kicks Off: Key Details from KNEC Circular

KNEC has officially opened the 2025 KCSE registration. According to a circular dated 14th February 2025, the registration will run from 17th February 2025 to 28th March 2025.

KCSE 2025 Registration Highlights

1. Online Registration

All candidates must be registered online through the KNEC portal (www.knec-portal.ac.ke). School principals and heads of institutions will enter candidate details using their own credentials.

2. Eligibility Criteria

Schools must ensure that:

  • All candidates presented for registration are genuine and eligible.
  • Subject entries adhere to KNEC rules and guidelines.
  • Candidate details, including names, date of birth, gender and citizenship are accurate.
  • Passport size photographs (300×300 pixels) are uploaded correctly, no changes will be allowed after registration.

3. Private Candidates and Repeaters

Private candidates and repeaters will register through their respective Sub-County Directors of Education (SCDEs).

  • Repeaters can register as full (7 and above subjects) or partial (less than 7 subjects) candidates.
  • Private candidates fee is Ksh. 7,200 payable through eCitizen.
  • Private candidates will sit their exams at designated county examination centers.

4. Government Funded Exam Fees

Government will pay for examination fees for candidates in both public and private schools, except:

  • Repeaters.
  • Non-Kenyan (foreign) candidates.
  • Private candidates registering through sub-county examination centers.

5. Examination Center Requirements

  • Institutions with less than 5 candidates must liaise with SCDEs to register at an approved center.
  • Institutions with less than 30 candidates will be hosted in another approved center.
  • KNEC reserves the right to reassign candidates to different centers if necessary.

6. New Exam Center Registration

Institutions applying for KNEC examination center status must submit the required documents, including:

  • Valid registration certificate.
  • Inspection report from Ministry of Health and SCDEs.
  • Non-refundable registration fee of Ksh. 5,000 for public schools and Ksh. 15,000 for private schools.* Process will be completed by 28th February 2025.

7. Data Protection and Confidentiality

According to Data Protection Act 2019, KNEC requires schools to:

  • Get consent from parents/guardians before collecting student data.
  • Use the collected data for examination purposes only.
  • Candidates to verify and sign their registration details.

8. Deadline – No Late Registration

All KCSE 2025 registration documents must be submitted to SCDE offices by 31st March 2025.

Note: No late registration will be allowed under any circumstances.
