Kenya Marks International Day of Education with Focus on Infrastructure and Technology

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba celebrated International Day of Education in Taita Taveta County. He highlighted some of the achievements in the education sector including the construction of over 14,500 classrooms countrywide.

Event Highlights

  1. Commissioning of New Classrooms and Facilities:
  • The CS commissioned 8 Junior School classrooms at Mghambonyi Comprehensive School and a tuition block at Mbauro Comprehensive School in Wundanyi Sub-County.
  • More classrooms were opened at Mwanyambo Comprehensive School in Voi.
  1. July Examination Series:
  • He said the July examination series is an important innovation to address learner progression challenges and give candidates an opportunity to improve their grades.
  1. Taifa Care Programme:
  • Parents should register for the Taifa Care Programme and add their school going children as dependents to benefit from the programme.

2025 Theme: AI and Education

In line with the 2025 International Education Day theme “AI and education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation” the CS told students to use technology wisely:

  • Technology should be a tool for success not a pathway to misuse or criminality.
  • Learners were reminded of the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in shaping the future of education and workforce development.

Capitation and Funding

The CS addressed the issue of funding delays and assured stakeholders that once funds are released by the treasury they will be disbursed to public schools within 3 days. He acknowledged the financial challenges the government is facing but expressed hope for better support in the next term.
