Kisii School at 90 Celebrations Tournament Attracts Top Teams

Kisii School’s 90th-anniversary celebration tournament is set to be a highly competitive event, drawing more than 30 schools, universities, clubs, and institutions of higher learning from the Nyanza region. The two-day tournament, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will feature various sports, including soccer, rugby 15s, basketball, handball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, hockey, lawn tennis, chess, scrabble, and netball.

Kisii School’s games master, Hesbon Chweya, expressed anticipation for a competitive tournament, with current and former regional and national champions confirming their participation. The participating teams will pay a participation fee of Sh2,500.

The event will serve as a testing ground for various teams ahead of the Term One Games. Notable schools expected to participate include former national rugby and basketball champions Maseno School, former regional rugby and basketball champions Agoro Sare, former Nyanza hockey champions Homa Bay School, and local rivals Nyanchwa Boys and Cardinal Otunga High School Mosocho. Kisii University and Kisii National Polytechnic have also confirmed their participation.

Chweya highlighted that Kisii School sees this tournament as part of their preparations to defend their regional 15s title. The school aims to assess and test their teams before the official start of the games in February. Last year, Kisii School surprised powerhouses St Mary’s Yala and Maseno School, securing the Nyanza region title.
