**KNEC Begins Physical Training for KJSEA Examiners
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has started physical training for teachers selected to be examiners in the upcoming **Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) for Grade 9 learners. This is the first cohort under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and will be assessed between October and November 2025.
Face-to-Face Training Starts April 14
After the online orientation, shortlisted teachers are now receiving SMS invitations to attend physical training from April 14 to 17, 2025. The residential training will be held in multiple centres, each based on subject specialization.
Training Centres by Subject:
- Kiswahili – Machakos Girls
- English – Maryhill Girls
- Business Studies – Murang’a TTC
- Agriculture – Kilimambogo TTC
- Mathematics – St. Francis Girls, Mang’u
- Geography & History – Sunshine Secondary School
- Christian Religious Education (CRE) – Machakos TTC
- Biology, Chemistry, Physics – St. George’s Secondary School
The physical training was originally scheduled for March 2025 but was rescheduled to April to avoid conflicting with school calendars.
Teachers Raise Concerns Over Access and Payment
Despite the structured plan, some teachers have raised concerns over access to online training and payment issues. Affected applicants were:
- Unable to access orientation materials
- Asked to pay Ksh 10,500 via a Paybill number
- Left out of physical training despite paying
KNEC has acknowledged the complaints and asked those affected to contact the council for assistance. The mandatory payment was only for teachers who received SMS confirmations of shortlisting.
Who Is Eligible for KJSEA Examiner Training?
To be eligible for KJSEA examiner training, applicants must meet the following general criteria:
- Must be a practicing teacher or tutor in the relevant subject
- Must be employed or registered by the TSC or Public Service Commission* Hold a Diploma in Education or higher
- Have at least three years of teaching experience
- Be under 50 years of age
- Be recommended by your head of institution
- Be free from any disciplinary proceedings
- Tutors from TTCs and TVET institutions are encouraged to apply for Home Science

- Click on “Apply for Training” to see available vacancies
Make sure you meet all the qualifications and upload the required documents. Shortlisting is done on first-come, first-served basis.
