In a landmark move aimed at recognizing and uplifting Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) teachers, Makueni County has hired 497 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms. This initiative, marking the first phase of the hiring program, brings a sense of security and dignity to educators who had been employed between 2014 and 2017 without specific salary structures.
Phase One Achievements
Out of the 497 teachers, 358 have already received their appointment letters, showcasing the county’s commitment to prompt action. Even those beyond 58 years of age, numbering 7, have been included in this phase. Additionally, 132 teachers are awaiting confirmation upon submission of the required documents, further demonstrating the inclusivity of this employment drive.

Governor Mutula announced plans to modernize and equip the 1,197 ECDE centers in Makueni, emphasizing the importance of providing a comfortable learning environment for children. Strategic Plan for Education
The county’s CEC for Education, ICT, and Internship, Elizabeth Muli, revealed that Makueni County is on the verge of launching a 5-year Strategic Plan for education. This strategic initiative aims to provide a comprehensive framework for the continuous improvement of the education sector.
