Mount Kenya University (MKU) is set to introduce a Master’s Degree in Health Information Management, in response to rising public demand for advanced training in the field.
Speaking at the university’s Thika Main Campus, Vice Chancellor Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi said MKU will continue to offer market-driven programs that enhance graduates’ employability both locally and internationally.
“After this, we will upgrade and offer a Master’s program in Health Information Management. Our health records and information technology graduates are making an impact in various sectors, including government, NGOs, academia and international organizations like WHO. With the Master’s program, they will do even better in this field,” said Prof. Jaganyi.
Accreditation and Industry Recognition
MKU’s move comes after the university was recently accredited to train health records professionals by the Health Records and Information Managers Board (HRIMB).
During the accreditation ceremony, HRIMB Chairman Onesmus Mwaura presented a certificate to Prof. Jaganyi, confirming that MKU had met the required standards for training health records and information management officers.
Mwaura said accreditation seeks to streamline training in the field, ensure compliance among institutions through standard guidelines.
MKU has been offering a Bachelor of Science in Health Records and Information Management since 2012, graduating thousands of degree, diploma and certificate students who have secured jobs in healthcare, research and technology-driven roles.
Strengthening Global Partnerships in Healthcare Training
MKU’s growing health education portfolio has also seen the university get re-accredited by the Nursing Council of Kenya, solidifying its position as a leading institution in nursing and health-related training.
Over 80 MKU nursing students have also secured employment abroad through partnerships with international institutions like:
✅ Hochschule Koblenz University of Applied Sciences (Germany)
✅ Lebenshilfe Tirol (Austria)
These partnerships offer young Kenyans paid apprenticeships and job opportunities in Europe’s healthcare sector, expanding their career prospects.
