MP Proposes All-in-One Schools: From ECD to Secondary!

Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba has come up with a brilliant idea to address the funding issue in our schools. He’s proposing that schools should offer classes from the Early Childhood Development (ECD) level all the way up to secondary school. That’s right, a one-stop-shop for education!

During his speech in the National Assembly, Milemba emphasized the need for reforms in the education sector, highlighting how this proposal would ensure equal funding for all schools. According to him, every school should be a full school, covering ECD, primary, junior secondary, and even what we traditionally call secondary education. Talk about a comprehensive approach!

Milemba didn’t stop there. He passionately championed the implementation of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC), stating that the outdated 8-4-4 system is churning out graduates who struggle to find employment. He believes that the new curriculum will equip students with the skills they need to thrive in the modern world.

“The system of 8-4-4 has outlived its time because it’s like a factory producing many students who can’t find jobs,” Milemba exclaimed.

During the motion discussion, he emphasized the importance of embracing the new curriculum, which focuses on developing practical skills and discourages a reliance on white-collar employment. It’s all about empowering our students to excel in various fields and contribute meaningfully to society.

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – the delayed release of capitation funds to schools. School heads have been feeling the pinch, struggling to manage their institutions due to rising commodity prices and the late disbursement of funds from the government. It’s a tough situation, but with innovative ideas like Milemba’s proposal, we could see positive changes in the funding landscape.

At the recent Kenya Secondary School Heads Association conference, teachers called for an increase in capitation funds from the current Sh22,244 to Sh30,000 per student. They’re hoping that the government will step in and provide the necessary resources to ensure smooth operations in schools.

So, let’s keep an eye on the progress of Milemba’s proposal. If implemented, it could revolutionize our education system, providing equal opportunities for students from ECD all the way to secondary school. And hey, who knows? Maybe this all-in-one school concept will even inspire some future comedians, engineers, or scientists. Let’s support these efforts to shape a brighter future for our children!
