In a stern warning, Kisukioni Assistant County Commissioner, Maryanne Wanjiru, has cautioned parents in Matungulu Sub-county, Machakos County, that they may face arrest and prosecution if their children remain at home instead of attending school. The directive comes despite the availability of free primary and secondary education, emphasizing the government’s commitment to achieving universal education.
Government Directive and Universal Education Investment
Maryanne Wanjiru, during a meeting with parents at Kisukioni Primary School, asserted that billions of shillings have been invested to achieve universal education. With the 100 percent transition from primary to secondary school, the government insists that no child should be left at home without access to education.
“I have ordered chiefs and their assistants to arrest any parent who will disobey the government directive because we have spent billions of shillings to achieve universal education. With the 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary, no child should be at home,” warned Wanjiru.
Parental Responsibility for Education
Wanjiru underscored the parental responsibility to ensure that all children have access to education. She called on parents to support policies aimed at improving education standards, emphasizing that such support contributes to providing children with a better education and a brighter future.
