KNEC has directed all primary schools to complete the registration of Grade 6 learners for the 2025 KPSEA by February 28. This is a critical deadline to ensure all eligible candidates are registered in advance of the national assessment.
KPSEA Registration Requirements
Each learner must be listed in the Grade 6 portal to get an assessment number. Learners were assigned an assessment number in Grade 3 but KNEC is doing fresh registrations to verify and update candidate’s biodata.
According to KNEC, the assessment number is a unique identifier which must be used to finalize KPSEA registration. Schools that fail to do this will have their learners excluded from the national assessment.
Details to Verify During Registration
KNEC has instructed headteachers to verify all candidate details before submitting the registration. The following details must be verified:
- Gender
- Year of Birth
- Citizenship
- Religious education subject (IRE or CRE)
- Categories of special needs and disabilities, where applicable
- Correct spelling and order of learner’s names as per birth certificate
To avoid malpractices, KNEC has warned against registering ghost candidates. Schools found registering ghost candidates will be deregistered as KNEC assessment centers.
KNEC’s Warning Against Malpractices
In a circular, KNEC CEO David Njengere stated;
“Candidates presented for the assessment must be eligible learners in the respective institutions presenting them. Registration of ghost candidates is an assessment malpractice which attracts sanctions including deregistration of the school as a KNEC assessment centre,”
Once the registration is done, schools will download and verify a KPSEA nominal roll.
KPSEA 2025 Exam Dates
Grade 6 will do KPSEA from October 26 to October 30, 2025. Last year 1,303,913 candidates sat for the assessment in 35,573 centers nationwide. The candidates will be tested in the following subjects:
- Mathematics
- English
- Kiswahili
- Integrated Science
- Social Studies and Creative ArtsUnlike KCPE, KPSEA does not have English Composition and Kiswahili Insha.
Grade 3 Registration (KEYA)
KNEC has also opened the CBA portal for Grade 3 registration. These learners will sit for the first national assessment, KEYA next term.
KEYA has practical activities in Term 2 and written assessment in Term 3
