TSC Shake-Up: Rift Valley Regional Director Among Four Affected in Latest Transfers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made new administrative changes affecting three county directors and one regional director as part of its ongoing internal realignments in the education sector.

The latest reshuffle sees Alex Cheruiyot, the Rift Valley Regional Director, transferred to TSC Headquarters in Nairobi. He has been reassigned to the Directorate of Administration where he will serve as Deputy Director under Ibrahim Mumin who has been in the post for nearly 20 years.

Major Changes in TSC Leadership

  • Alex Cheruiyot: Transferred from Rift Valley region to TSC Secretariat as Deputy Director, Administration.
  • Dr Samwel Marigat: Promoted from Kisumu County Director to Rift Valley Regional Director.
  • Joseph Atwoto: Transferred from Kericho to Kisumu to take over from Dr Marigat.
  • Carolyne Nandi: Promoted from Deputy Director, Migori County, to County Director for Kericho.

Retirement, Promotions and Surprises

Sources at TSC headquarters have indicated that Cheruiyot’s transfer was not expected, especially since he was expected to retire by end of 2025. The move has raised questions in the education sector as many thought he would serve out his term in Rift Valley until retirement.

Dr Marigat’s promotion to Regional Director is a reflection of his growing profile in TSC and his experience in managing education in Kisumu County may have contributed to the decision.

Joseph Atwoto’s transfer to Kisumu continues the trend while Carolyne Nandi’s promotion from Deputy to full County Director is TSC’s recognition of emerging leadership in the ranks.

What This Means for TSC Operations

These changes may be routine but are significant for TSC operations in key counties. Rift Valley being one of the biggest and most influential education regions is now under new leadership as the Commission seeks to strengthen administrative capacity.

TSC has not issued a statement on whether more changes are expected but these realignments signal renewed focus on leadership renewal and succession planning ahead of 2026.
