Rugby action in Western Kenya was at its peak over the weekend as Bungoma High School, Musingu Boys and Vihiga High School emerged winners in their respective county championships. They now qualify for Western Region KSSSA Term One Games.
Bungoma High School Bosses Bungoma County
Bungoma High School proved too strong for Kamusinde High School with a 44-6 win in the county final at Friends School Kamusinga.
In the semis, Bungoma had defeated Kimobo 27-13, while Kamusinde had crushed Bokoli 50-0.
Bungoma and Kamusinde have qualified for the Western Region Games where they will face other county champions.
Musingu Boys Pip St Peters Mumias in Kakamega County Final
In Kakamega County, Musingu Boys High School won the title with a 3-0 win over St Peters Boys High School Mumias in a tight game at Eregi Teachers Training College.
The match was a defensive battle with both teams not willing to concede but Musingu held their nerves to win.
Musingu had defeated Butere Boys 12-6 in the semis, while St Peters Mumias had edged Kakamega School 3-0.
In the third place playoff, Butere Boys won 13-11 over Kakamega School to end the county tournament.
Musingu and St Peters Mumias have qualified for the Western Region Games.
Vihiga High Dominant in Vihiga County
Vihiga High School were ruthless in their 17-0 win over Senende in the county final.
They had overwhelmed Chavakali Boys 22-8 in the semis, while Senende had defeated Gamalenga 17-10.
Chavakali Boys bounced back in the third place playoff, winning 22-0 over Gamalenga to end the tournament.Now that the county titles are over, the focus shifts to Western Region Games where these teams will face off for regional glory and national qualification.
The matches promise to be fierce as the best from Bungoma, Kakamega and Vihiga counties clash for Western Region rugby championship.
