Education Cabinet Secretary Migos Ogamba has assured schools that the delayed capitation funds will be released this week, citing other national obligations as the reason for the delay.
This comes after school principals had complained that the current allocations are not meeting the growing demands of institutions.
Speaking during the 60th Golden Jubilee celebration of Kereri Girls’ High School in Kisii County, Ogamba addressed parents, teachers and students, asking for patience as the government fulfills its financial obligations.
“We have many development projects to fund but we will support education. Ask parents to appreciate these efforts,” he said.
He acknowledged the delays and asked school heads to remain patient and resilient as they run their institutions, citing the unpredictable nature of economic and political challenges.
Launch of “Leading Forward” Book
During the event, the CS launched “Leading Forward”, a book that captures the school’s history, achievements and aspirations. The book was a collaborative effort by 18 students under the guidance of two teachers.
The function was attended by Kisii County Deputy Governor Elijah Obebo, County Education Executive Esther Okenyuri, Nyaribari Chache MP Zaheer Jhandah and other dignitaries.
Kisii County Education Director, Philip Chirchir, commended school heads for nurturing strong partnership with teachers, attributing this to the improved performance in 2025 KCSE.
Kereri Girls’ High School’s Performance and Aspirations
Kereri Girls’ High School Senior Principal Tabitha Mogonchi highlighted the school’s growth, noting that it is an Extra County school with over 2,800 students, largely due to the government’s 100% transition policy from primary to secondary education.
She credited the school’s success to discipline, teamwork and a strong support system among teachers, students and parents, reinforced by shared faith. Looking forward to 2025 KCSE, Mogonchi is optimistic the school will perform well, the students have set a target of 9.1 and are working hard to achieve it.And the CS, MP, Senator and students and teachers danced together.
