Less than a month after leaving Teachers Service Commission (TSC), former CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia is back to public service—this time at the county level. Dr. Macharia has been nominated to be the Chairperson of Murang’a County Public Service Board, a move from national education leadership to county human resource governance.
The nomination was communicated to Murang’a County Assembly through a letter dated June 10, 2025 by Governor Dr. Irungu Kang’ata. The announcement was made on the floor of the Assembly by the Speaker who read out the list of nominees submitted by the Governor.
“Honourable Members, I have a message from H.E. the Governor, Dr. Irungu Kang’ata,” the Speaker said before naming Dr. Macharia among the proposed board members.

Dr. Macharia will be joined by:
- Dr. Louis Mwende Musikali – Member
- Johnson Kang’ethe Kinyua – Member
- Dr. Brian Lishenga Makamu – Member
- Oscar Kimani Gathura – Nominated as Secretary to the Board
Vetting Process and Mandate
The nomination now goes to Governance, Labour and Social Welfare, and Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the County Assembly which has 21 days from June 17 to vet the nominees and table a report for approval.
If confirmed Dr. Macharia will be in charge of managing the county’s public service including:
- Recruitment and appointment of county staff
- Performance evaluation and promotions
- Enforcement of discipline and ethical standards
- Formulation of HR policies for the county government
From National to County Leadership
Dr. Macharia’s nomination comes shortly after she left TSC after 10 years where she oversaw major reforms in the education sector including digital transformation, policy standardization and staff rationalization.
Her move to county leadership is seen as a strategic move that may bring national level experience to local governance structures.
