Funyula Constituency Bursary Initiative: A Ray of Hope for 200 Needy Students

200 orphaned and vulnerable students in Funyula constituency, Busia county, are set to receive educational bursaries, providing them with the opportunity to continue their studies. The announcement was made by Carmilus Obada, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Ageng’a/Nanguba ward, during the burial ceremony of the late Priest Okuku Odame at Bumayenga village.

Obada, also known as Simbi Nyaima and the former Busia County Council Chairman, shared the positive news with the gathered mourners. According to him, the Ward Development Committee (WDC) has earmarked Ksh1 million from the Ward Development Fund in the current financial year to sponsor deserving students from the area.

The beneficiaries will include students who recently completed their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2023. The MCA expressed concern for orphaned and vulnerable children in the ward, emphasizing that their guardians often struggle to afford school fees.

He detailed the allocation process, mentioning that each needy student would receive a Ksh5,000 cheque payable to their respective educational institutions. Furthermore, Obada assured the community that the WDC plans to allocate additional funds for bursaries in the coming financial year.

To facilitate a transparent and accountable selection process, Obada encouraged residents with eligible students to visit the ward offices located at Bukiri Trading Centre. Application forms for the bursaries would be available starting Monday, January 22. However, he emphasized that only cases demonstrating genuine need would be considered.

This initiative not only addresses the financial barriers faced by vulnerable students but also reflects the commitment of local leaders to prioritize education and provide opportunities for the community’s future leaders.
