The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has appointed Ibrahim Mumin, the current Director for Administrative Services, as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Secretary of the commission. Mumin takes over from Dr. Nancy Macharia, who is set to go on terminal leave in March 2025, before retiring in July 2025.
Mumin’s Appointment and Parliamentary Appearance
Mr. Mumin recently represented the TSC in Parliament, filling in for Nancy Macharia after Senator Richard Onyonka asked the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) about the removal of 32 teachers from marking the 2024 KCSE exams. The senator termed the removal as victimization and further demanded answers.
Nancy Macharia’s Legacy at TSC
Nancy Macharia, born in Murang’a in 1963, has been at TSC for a decade, after taking over from Gabriel Lengoiboni in 2015. She was the first female CEO of the commission and is credited with modernizing teacher services through automation.

Macharia has:
- Master of Education (Policy & Management) from Bristol University, UK.*Â Bachelor of Education (English/Literature) from Kenyatta University.
She started her career as a teacher at Kahuhia Girls’ Secondary School in Murang’a in 1987 before rising to become a Deputy Head Teacher at Kianderi Girls’ Secondary School.
