KNEC Circular: Guidelines for Registration of July 2025 KCSE Examination

KNEC has released a new circular on the registration and administration of the July 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) series. This is the first time we are having the KCSE July series to give eligible candidates an opportunity to sit for the exam.

1. Registration Period

Registration for the July 2025 KCSE series will start on Monday 27th January 2025 and end on Friday 21st February 2025. All registrations will be done at County headquarters, under the supervision of County Directors of Education (CDEs) using the KNEC portal.

2. Eligibility

The July series is for:

  • Repeaters: Candidates who have sat for KCSE before, whether full or partial repeaters.
  • Unsuccessful Candidates: Those who had registered for KCSE but couldn’t sit for the exam due to unforeseen circumstances.
  • Adult Learners: Those with proof of primary education qualifications but not in regular schools.

But not for:

  • Regular school learners sitting for KCSE for the first time.
  • Those who do not meet KNEC’s qualification requirements.

3. Documents to be presented

Eligible candidates must present the following during registration:

  • National ID card, birth certificate or passport.
  • KCPE certificate and KCSE result slip/certificate (for repeaters).
  • Soft copy of recent passport size photo (300×300 pixels).

4. Registration Fee

Non-refundable fee of Kes 7,200 to be paid through E-Citizen portal. No late registration will be allowed after the deadline.

5. Examination

  • Projects: For subjects like Art and Design, Agriculture and Computer Studies, projects will be done at sub-county level between January and July 2025.
  • Theory and Practical Exams: Will be done from 1st July to 1st August 2025 at county level centers identified by CDEs.

6. Grading and Certification

Candidates repeating 7 or more subjects will get KCSE certificate, those repeating fewer subjects will get result slips.

Notes to Candidates

  • Be accurate during registration, including spelling of names, date of birth and subject selection.
  • Check registration details and follow up on project assignments and exam centers with CDEs.
  • Follow all regulations, including presenting valid ID at the exam centers.

Last Chance

KNEC portal will close on 21st February 2025, no late registration will be allowed. Candidates and stakeholders must adhere to the timelines.
