KNEC to Introduce Mid-Year KCSE Exams Starting July

The Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba made an announcement during the release of the 2024 KCSE results that the Kenya National Examinations Council will introduce a mid-year KCSE examination series that will be administered annually in July.

The new examination series aims at giving a second chance to candidates who may want a repeat in the KCSE exam, as well as those who missed the examination due to various reasons such as illness. The country will also increase inclusivity in its education system by allowing adult learners to register for the July KCSE series.

Improving Efficiency in the Administration of Exams

CS Ogamba said the government was committed to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in the administration of national examinations. “We are committed to aligning our examination processes with global best practices to ensure fairness and inclusivity,” the CS remarked.

Key among them will be the use of Orbit Readers to replace Braille machines for candidates with visual impairment, as the measure seeks to revolutionize the exam process for learners with special needs in a bid to make it friendly and more agreeable to them.
Increase in KCSE Candidates

The 2024 KCSE examination registered a total of 962,512 candidates, an increase of 64,553 candidates (7.19%) compared to 899,453 candidates in 2022. This increase reflects the rising number of learners completing secondary education across the country.
