KUPPET Kisumu Issues Ultimatum to KNEC Over Unpaid KCSE Examiners

KUPPET Gives KNEC One Week to Pay Teachers Who Marked 2024 KCSE Exams

Teachers Demand Instant Payment

Speaking in Kisumu, KUPPET Kisumu Secretary General, Zablon Awange has condemned KNEC for delayed payments saying the council is exploiting teachers who gave their time to the national exercise.

“No teacher from Kisumu will participate in marking in future unless KNEC pays all outstanding balances,” Awange warned.

He also criticized KNEC for using cheap labor saying many trained KUPPET examiners continue to suffer due to the Council’s failure to honour payments on time.

Improvement in Examiners’ Compensation and Working Conditions

Awange demanded review of examiners’ remuneration saying the current rates are insufficient.

“Teachers spend their own money during the marking period and are subjected to poor accommodation. The conditions are inhuman,” he noted.

With more candidates sitting for KCSE, teachers say KNEC should ensure prompt and fair payment to those who mark.

2024 KCSE Records

  • The **2024 KCSE was done in 10,755 centres.
  • 965,501 candidates sat for the exam, an increase from 903,138 in 2023.
  • KNEC engaged 30,370 examiners who marked the papers in 40 designated marking centres.

Will KNEC Meet the Deadline?

As the one week ultimatum expires, KUPPET threatens to boycott if the payment is not made. The ball is in KNEC’s court to solve the crisis and avoid future disruptions in Kenya’s marking process.
