Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kameme Kasimbi in partnership with Computers for Schools Kenya has empowered the local youth by offering free computer training. Over 100 youth from Kangundo who finished their KCSE last year graduated from the program after acquiring computer skills.
The graduation ceremony held on Tuesday January 14th saw Kasimbi urging the graduates to use their new skills to build careers, create self employment and personal growth.
“Now you can go out there and look for a job or even start your own business,” she said, highlighting the importance of self reliance in today’s job market.
Entrepreneurship Over White Collar Jobs
Kasimbi also mentioned the changing job market and told the youth to embrace entrepreneurship.
“The truth is white collar jobs are no longer guaranteed. The skills you have acquired today if used well can shape your future,” she said.
Government Funding
To support their entrepreneurial dreams Kasimbi told the graduates to form groups and take advantage of the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF). She said such funding can help them start projects and be financially independent.
Empowering Machakos Youth
This is part of Kasimbi’s broader agenda to equip Machakos youth with practical skills that will make them employable and entrepreneurial. By partnering with Computers for Schools Kenya she is promoting innovation and resilience among the youth.
Next Steps
The program is a step in the right direction in addressing youth unemployment in Machakos County. With computer skills in hand these graduates can now navigate Kenya’s digital economy and get employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
