The County Government of Murang’a has allocated over Ksh118 million in bursaries to support more than 3,000 students in day secondary schools within the region. Governor Irungu Kang’ata announced the disbursement, highlighting the significant impact it would have on students’ education.
Governor Kang’ata emphasized that each Member of County Assembly (MCA) would oversee Ksh2 million, contributing to a total of Ksh70 million allocated for the county’s 35 wards. The bursaries aim to support deserving students, with a particular focus on orphans who would receive Ksh10,000 each to ensure their continued access to education.
Parents expressed gratitude for the timely disbursement, noting that it has restored hope for the education of their children, especially those facing financial challenges.
This initiative follows Governor Kang’ata’s earlier launch of a program that rewarded the top five candidates from public primary schools with Ksh15,000 each for their outstanding performance in the last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
In addition to the bursaries, Governor Kang’ata announced that day school students proceeding to university would each receive a Ksh12,000 token. This financial support is intended to assist students in their transition to higher education.
The governor commended the achievements of several day schools in the region, such as Karega Secondary School, Muthithi, Ngurwe-ini, and Vidhu Ramji, for their notable contributions to education. He specifically mentioned that Karega Secondary School would be sending 100 students to university, reflecting the positive outcomes of the education initiatives in Murang’a County.
