Webuye, Kenya – Learning at Ngwelo Secondary School came to a abrupt end today after parents protested against the newly appointed principal, Judith Nasimiyu. The parents staged a demonstration, chanting slogans and holding placards, which led to the school being closed as roads to the school were barricaded.
Parents reject principal over allegations of incompetence
The angry parents accused Nasimiyu of being incompetent, saying she has been resisting in at least 8 other schools before being posted to Ngwelo Secondary.
“Ngwelo Secondary is not a dumping site!” exclaimed Rodgers Matanda, a parent and vocal critic of the appointment as frustrations boiled over.
Students sent home as crisis deepens
With tempers rising, the school administration decided to send students home fearing things might get out of hand. Teachers and staff found themselves caught in the middle as the protesters blocked all entry points to the school.
Authorities in a meeting
Education officials from the sub-county were reportedly in a meeting to find a solution to the standoff. However, as of the time of publishing, we had not managed to get a statement from them.
Uncertain future for Ngwelo Secondary
The situation raises questions on school leadership and how it affects students’ education. Parents say they will not back down until their concerns are addressed, setting the stage for a long drama if authorities do not act fast.
