Nyamira County has launched a new feeding program to boost enrollment and retention in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE). The program will kick off in May 2025 and will benefit 30,000 ECDE learners in the county.
Speaking during Education Day at Manga Stadium, Governor Amos Nyaribo said enough funds have been set aside for the program.
“Each learner will get one cup of fortified porridge daily to improve concentration and learning outcomes,” he said.
The governor said many young children lack access to nutritious meals and the feeding program is an important intervention to support early childhood education.
Celebrating Achievements
Governor Nyaribo also congratulated Nyamira primary and secondary schools for their good performance in the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). He pledged to continue supporting Education Day celebrations where students and teachers will be recognized for their achievements.
The event was attended by Kitutu Masaba MP Clive Gisairo, Nyamira County Director of Education Samuel Kega and other education officials and stakeholders.
Good University Placement and TVET Promotion
MP Gisairo said 8,500 students from Nyamira County qualified for direct university entry after scoring C+ and above in the 2024 KCSE.
For those who did not meet university entry requirements, he urged parents to encourage their children to join TVET institutions to acquire practical skills for employment and career growth.
“Instead of joining the bodaboda industry which is not sustainable, I encourage our youth to join TVET colleges to gain skills,” he said.
Gisairo also called for regional unity among leaders to push for equitable resource distribution including the long awaited Nyamira University.
Top Performing Schools
Among the schools recognized for good 2024 KCSE performance was Kebirigo Boys’ High School whose Chief Principal Clement Nyang’acha was present at the event. The school received trophies and cash prizes for their achievement.
The event was perfomed by Kebirigo Boys’ students who sang Christian and traditional songs.
