With the term ending soon, both public and private schools in Kenya are preparing for the April holiday which starts on April 4, 2025. However, many schools especially secondary schools and those with a large Muslim population will be closing earlier to observe Eid al-Fitr which is on April 1, 2025.
Early Closure for Eid Celebrations
Eid al-Fitr is a significant religious festival for Muslims worldwide. In Kenya it is a public holiday and many schools with a large Muslim student body will adjust their academic calendars accordingly.
Since Eid is just three days before the official school closing date, many institutions are opting for an early break to give Muslim students and staff time to celebrate with their families.
Many secondary schools are closing early to cut operational costs on food, electricity, water and medical supplies since the holiday is just around the corner.
