The TSC has assured the recently recruited JSS Intern Teachers that they will be confirmed to permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms after one year of service.
This was during the induction exercise for the 20,000 JSS Intern Teachers recruited in November 2024 who officially reported to schools on January 6, 2025.

Internship to Permanent Status
- The 20,000 JSS teachers will transition to permanent and pensionable terms after one year if they meet TSC’s requirements.

TSC Induction & Training
- Teachers were introduced to TSC regulations, teacher ethics and TPAD (Teacher Performance Appraisal and Development).
- Will be retooled on Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency Based Assessment (CBA).
Largest Ever Confirmation of Interns
- In January 2025, TSC confirmed 46,000 intern teachers to permanent terms, the largest ever transition of interns to permanent employment.
- This follows the Kenya Kwanza Government’s pledge to hire 56,000 teachers on PnP terms.

- Primary School Teachers (Permanent): Ksh 32,000 net salary after deductions.

- Intern Salary (Before Confirmation):
- Primary school interns: Ksh 13,000 per month.
- Secondary school interns: Ksh 17,000 per month.
Internship Program & Confirmation Process
- The TSC Internship Program is a 12 months program to equip teachers with practical skills.* Intern teachers get 50 marks in the TSC recruitment scoresheet, giving them an edge in permanent job confirmations.
Salary Arrears & Delays
- TSC will process internship stipends with arrears in February 2025 after school heads failed to submit online casualty reports correctly.
