TSC confirms teachers will get January 2025 salaries on Monday with leave allowance. The January payroll has been closed and TSC can now process salaries, allowances, loans and third party deductions.
New Salaries for Teachers Transferred from Intern to Permanent Terms
Big news in this payroll is the inclusion of 46,000 teachers who have been transferred from internship to permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms. These teachers were recruited between February and September 2023 and will now get better salaries and more benefits.
Breakdown of the newly transferred teachers:
- 21,550 junior school teachers and 4,000 primary school teachers recruited in February 2023.
- 450 secondary school teachers recruited in April 2023.
- 18,000 junior school teachers and 2,000 primary school teachers recruited in September 2023.
These teachers are now eligible for better salaries and benefits like medical cover, loans and leaves but they will not get leave allowance this year since they have not served for the required period.
New Salary Structure
With the transfer, the salary adjustments are:
- Primary school teachers: Ksh 32,000 net after deductions.
- Graduate secondary school and junior secondary teachers: Up to Ksh 47,000.
Intern teachers used to earn much less:
- Primary school interns: Ksh 13,000/month.
- Secondary school interns: Ksh 17,000/month.
Annual Leave Allowance Rates
TSC has standardised the annual leave allowance across all job grades as per the 2021–2025 CBA:
Job Group | Annual Leave Allowance (Ksh) |
---|---|
B5 | 4,000 |
C1 | 4,000 |
C2–C5 | 6,000 |
D1–D5 | 10,000 |
The allowance is paid alongside January salaries every year. But teachers should note that leave allowance is not cumulative and is tied to active service.

- Leave must be taken during school holidays and cannot be carried forward.
- Applications must be submitted online.
