TUK Resumes Operations After Strike
TUK has reopened after a month-long strike that paralyzed learning at the institution. The strike which began on January 23 was called off after UASU and KUSU reached an agreement.
“The university has resumed normal operations after the suspension of industrial action,” said Vice Chancellor Benedict Mutua on March 18.
The strike was called due to non-remittance of over Ksh300 million in statutory deductions since January leaving lecturers in financial distress. Students protested demanding the institution to reopen.
Government to Intervene in Public Universities’ Financial Crisis
Before the National Assembly Committee on Education, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Oganga acknowledged the financial crisis facing public universities including TUK. The Ministry is exploring ways to stabilize university funding and prevent future disruptions.
