Finlays Community Trust Awards Kshs 4 Million Scholarship for 20 Students

The Finlays Community Trust has taken a stride in nurturing sustainable growth by awarding a Kshs 4 million scholarship to 20 deserving students in Kericho and Bomet counties. The independent charitable trust, launched in 2021, focuses on fostering social, environmental, and economic benefits through collaborative initiatives with local communities.

The scholarship, aimed at supporting secondary school education, provided each of the 20 students with a maximum annual fee of Shs 50,000, covering the entirety of their four-year education. Speaking at the award ceremony held at the company’s hotel grounds, Ambassador Joshua Terer, the trust’s Vice Chairperson, emphasized the pivotal role of quality education in shaping the future of society.

“Education plays a pivotal role in our society’s future. At Finlays Community Trust, we recognize and value the community’s need for human capital, and providing scholarships is one of the most reliable ways to foster long-term growth and sustainability in this area,” said Ambassador Terer.

The scholarship, awarded on merit, selected 20 bright and needy students out of 100 applicants who scored between 407 and 379 marks in the 2023 KCPE. Trust Secretary Sammy Kirui affirmed the Trust’s commitment to supporting learners who excel in their KCSE national examination, ensuring a continued investment in the educational journey of promising students.

Kericho County Director of Education Julius Ngoneshi advised the scholarship recipients to work hard and maintain positive behavior, recognizing the fortunate opportunity they have been given to pursue their secondary education through this bursary.

Trust Patron Simon Hutchinson reiterated the Trust’s dedication to collaborating with local communities to address the educational needs of children in Kericho and Bomet counties. The Trust’s longstanding secondary school scholarship, running for over 30 years, has already benefited 586 students, with a total investment of Shs 53.5 million.

In addition to secondary school scholarships, the Trust extends its support to undergraduate students pursuing higher education in local universities. The Swire Masters scholarship further opens doors for students to experience international education in the United Kingdom, fostering exposure to diverse cultures and the acquisition of essential soft skills for professional spaces.

The Finlays Community Trust’s multifaceted approach exemplifies its commitment to creating shared values and leaving a lasting impact on the communities it serves. Through education-focused initiatives, the Trust illuminates the path to a brighter future for the youth of Kericho and Bomet counties.
