Western Kenya schools are shining again with Friends School Kamusinga, Kakamega High, Bunyore Girls, St Peter’s Mumias Boys, and St Mary’s Mumias Girls making notable improvements in 2024 KCSE.
Friends School Kamusinga leads with 9.8
Friends School Kamusinga got 9.8, maintaining its position among the top schools in the region. 47 of the 417 students who sat for the exams got A plain and 111 got A- making the school a shining star in Bungoma County.
Bunyore Girls: Comeback
Bunyore Girls did well with 10 students getting straight As. The school’s principal said they are looking forward to even better results in the coming years and credited hard work and a conducive environment for the school’s success.
Kakamega High: The Giant is back with 8.1
After a tough time, Kakamega High School is back with 8.1, same as 2023. Principal Dr. Julius Mambili is proud of the results and said the school is back to focusing on academic excellence.
Out of 613 candidates the school got:

- 74 A-
- 80 B+
- 86 B
- 130 B-
- 97 C+
- 97 C
- 29 C-
- 10 D
- 2 D plain
Dr. Mambili said the school is on course to be among the top performing schools in the country again.
St Peter’s Mumias Boys and St Mary’s Mumias Girls did well
St Peter’s Mumias Boys also did well with 8.1. Out of 576 candidates

St Mary’s Mumias Girls also did well and contributed to the region’s overall performance.
Mukumu Girls and Musoli Girls: Progress
Mukumu Girls improved with 7.7 and Musoli Girls got its first A plain in 16 years with 6.6.
Butula Boys with 7.9
In Busia County, Butula Boys got 7.9, a drop from 9.1 in 2023. Despite the drop, the school is hopeful for better results next time.
