The soccer field in Busia County was set ablaze over the weekend as John Osogo High School from Budalang’i swooped in and claimed the title of county champion in the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Games. Talk about an upset!
In a nail-biting final held at Nambale Boys High School, John Osogo High pulled off a stunning 1-0 victory against the previously unbeaten Madende Secondary from Nambale Sub County. The winning goal, courtesy of the talented Reakey Sande in the 22nd minute, sealed the deal and sent the crowd into a frenzy. I bet even the sports cabinet secretary, Ababu Namwamba, couldn’t believe his eyes!
Now, here’s the cherry on top. With their glorious win, John Osogo High School has secured their ticket to the regional games, which will take place at Kakamega National School later this month. They won’t be alone, though, as Madende Secondary also earned their spot at the regional bonanza. It’s going to be quite the showdown!
And wait, there’s more good news for these talented teams. Thanks to the Sports Cabinet Secretary’s Talanta Hela initiative, both John Osogo High and Madende Secondary have secured a golden opportunity. They will train at the prestigious Kenya Sports Academy Kasarani for two whole weeks to sharpen their skills and prepare for the upcoming regional level competitions. Talk about a dream come true!
Moving on to the ladies’ soccer category, St. Joseph’s Chakol showcased their dominance on the field as they triumphed over Katakwa with a stunning 4-0 victory. Naome Akuleut stole the show with an impressive brace in the 48th and 55th minutes, while Kaurechi and Rabecca Odunga contributed a goal each in the 62nd and 78th minutes respectively. St. Joseph’s Chakol can proudly wear the crown of county soccer queens!
In the world of volleyball, it was Bumala Girls who emerged as the champions, proving their mettle with a sensational 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-15, 25-19) against St. Peter’s Busibi in the final. On the boys’ side, Sigalame reigned supreme and claimed the championship title by defeating Butula Boys in straight sets. Spike-tacular!
Now, let’s not forget about netball! The title of champions went to none other than the defending regional champions, Bumala AC. They showcased their skills and thrashed St. Joseph’s Chakol with a whopping score of 79-10 in the final. Talk about a commanding victory!
And last but not least, we have Rugby 7s. Kolanya Boys proved to be the unstoppable force on the field as they emerged as the champions, leaving St. Mary’s Mundika in the dust with a commanding 21-0 victory in the final. Kolanya had previously defeated Nambale Boys 14-0 in the semifinals, while Mundika secured their spot in the final by overcoming Butula Boys with a score of 14-5 in the other semifinal match. Butula Boys managed to secure the third spot by defeating Nambale Boys 5-0 in an intense playoff encounter.
With their triumphant performances, Kolanya Boys, Mundika, Butula Boys, and Nambale Boys have all secured their spots in the upcoming regional games. Other disciplines will also send two teams each, so the competition is sure to be fierce!
Congratulations to all the teams who showcased their skills and sportsmanship in the Busia County Schools Sports Association Games. We can’t wait to see these talented athletes shine on the regional stage!
