List of Documents Required for TSC Teacher Promotion Completion

As the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) prepares to issue promotion letters to eligible teachers who attended interviews in December and January, it’s essential for teachers to ensure they have all the necessary documents in place to complete their promotion process. Here’s a comprehensive list of the five mandatory documents aligned with Chapter Six of the Kenyan Constitution on ‘Leadership and Integrity’:

  1. Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from DCI:
    • Cost: Ksh 1,050/-
    • This certificate, obtained from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), attests to the individual’s criminal record status and is a crucial requirement to demonstrate good conduct.
  2. Clearance Certificate from HELB:
    • Cost: Free
    • Issued by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), this certificate confirms that the teacher has cleared any outstanding loans owed to HELB, ensuring financial compliance.
  3. Tax Compliance Certificate from KRA:
    • Cost: Free
    • Provided by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), this certificate verifies that the teacher is compliant with tax obligations, reflecting fiscal responsibility.
  4. Clearance from EACC:
    • Cost: Free
    • Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) confirms that the teacher is not under investigation for any ethical or corruption-related issues, ensuring integrity and accountability.
  5. Clearance Certificate from Approved CRB:
    • Cost: Ksh 2,200/-
    • Obtained from an approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), this certificate validates the teacher’s credit history and financial standing, demonstrating sound financial management.

Once these documents are obtained, teachers can submit them to TSC to complete their promotion process and facilitate their posting to the designated positions.

The TSC advertised a total of 36,505 promotion vacancies for both primary and post-primary school teachers in September of the previous year. Interviews for primary school teachers were conducted from 4th to 15th December 2023, while secondary school teachers and Teacher Training College (TTC) tutors underwent interviews from 3rd to 16th January 2024.

Ensuring timely submission of the required documents is crucial for teachers to secure their promotion and advance their careers within the education sector.
