All school-going children must be registered under Social Health Authority (SHA). The directive was issued by Principal Secretary Belio R. Kipsang in a circular to County and Sub-County Directors of Education to inform parents and guardians about the registration requirement.
Background on SHA Registration
The directive follows the enactment of Social Health Insurance Act No. 16 of 2023 which requires every Kenyan including children to be registered under Social Health Authority. This is in line with the Constitution of Kenya which provides for the right to the highest attainable standard of health.
SHA will replace National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) and ensure all Kenyans have access to affordable healthcare services.

Parents and guardians can register their children through either of the following methods:

Deadline
The Ministry has set a deadline of 28th February 2025 for all schools to inform parents and guide them through the registration process.
All County and Sub-County Directors of Education must ensure compliance by ensuring schools under their jurisdiction facilitate the registration.
