TSC Announces Deployment of Third Batch of P1 Teachers to Junior Schools in May 2024

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has unveiled plans to deploy a third batch of qualified Primary Teacher Education (PTE) teachers to junior schools, commencing May 2024. This move comes as part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to address the critical shortage of educators in junior secondary schools across the country. Deployment Requirements:

  • Active registration as a teacher with TSC.
  • Employment as a primary school teacher under TSC.
  • No ongoing interdiction or disciplinary proceedings.
  • Minimum of a Diploma in Education with a minimum grade of C+ at KCSE (or equivalent), including proficiency in two teaching subjects.
  • Bachelor of Education degree; Bachelor of Education (Primary Option) holders are ineligible.
  • Submission of necessary documents during verification, including degree/diploma certificates, academic transcripts, SNE qualification (if applicable), KCSE certificate, current payslip, and a declaration by the Head of Institution confirming employment status.

Deployment Process:

  • Upon verification by Sub-County Directors, eligible teachers will receive posting letters.
  • TSC headquarters will scrutinize documents to ensure compliance with deployment criteria.
  • Online submission and processing of Posting, Entry/Exit Reports Module for efficient deployment management.

Salary and Career Progression:

  • Deployed teachers will initially be placed in job group C2, with a three-year tenure before automatic progression to job group C3.
  • Salary breakdown includes basic salary, house allowance, hardship allowance, commuter allowance, and leave benefits.

Special Considerations:

  • Teachers with Special Need Education (SNE) qualifications will be assigned to special junior secondary schools.
