TSC’s Delay in Releasing Union Dues Disrupts Operations

TSC has delayed paying union dues and operations at KUPPET and KNUT have ground to a halt. Many branches are struggling to meet their financial obligations.

As of yesterday, activities at KUPPET and KNUT offices across the country had come to a standstill. Reports from regions like Central, Nyanza and Rift Valley indicate that the delay in remitting funds has affected operations but it’s not being spoken about.

With dwindling funds, union officials are wondering why TSC has not disbursed the funds yet.

Several branch secretaries, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the financial pinch has made it difficult for them to run daily operations.

“I no longer answer calls freely. I have to be selective because my suppliers are threatening to take me to court for breaching contracts,” said a KNUT official from Central region.

The silence from both KNUT and KUPPET national offices has left branches in the dark. Officials fear that if they press TSC too hard, the Commission will withhold deductions altogether – a situation both unions have faced before.

As teachers across the country celebrate Valentine’s Day, union officials are wondering how to do so with empty pockets. They hope TSC will act fast so this “month of love” does not turn into a month of financial stress.
