Parents of St. Peters Abwao Secondary School in Migori County are demanding answers from the Ministry of Education after KNEC withheld the school’s 2025 KCSE results due to irregularities.
Led by the school’s principal Peter Magawe, the parents are worried and frustrated. The situation is causing a lot of anxiety and stress to the affected students.
“My son hasn’t eaten since he heard about this mess,” said Anne Mwikwabe one of the parents.
The school is feeling the pinch especially since it was the top performer in Migori County in 2023 with a mean score of 9.7.
KNEC’s Stand on Withheld Results
During the release of 2024 KCSE results, Education CS Migos Ogamba announced that results of 2,829 students from various schools across the country were withheld due to exam malpractices. He said investigations will be completed in 30 days and a final decision will be made on the release of the results.
Local Leaders to Intervene
To hasten the process, the parents have asked Migori MP Dr. Peter Masara to intervene and talk to the authorities.
County Office of Education Weighs In
Migori County Education Director Jacob Onyiego said KNEC had withheld the school’s results due to irregularities. He told parents that investigations are ongoing and if the school is found innocent, results will be released ASAP.
“Investigations are ongoing to confirm there was no cheating,” he said. “Parents should be patient.”
Anxiety and Hope for a Fair Verdict
As investigations continue, parents, students and teachers of St. Peters Abwao are hoping the school’s good name will be cleared and results will be released soon. The local community and education stakeholders are waiting for KNEC’s final decision.
This is a bigger issue of exam irregularities in Kenya’s education system, a problem that still questions the fairness and integrity of national exams.
